They are true unsung heroes – those coaches who not only teach kids, but make a major impact on their lives.
One man in York County has influenced hundreds of swimmers and when the York Suburban swimmers hit the pool for the start of the state swim meet, it will be the beginning of the end.
"If Hersheypark could build a ride as wild as my 41 years, they'd make millions!"
Coach Richard Guyer is stepping down at the end of the season after 41 of years at the helm.
"We're so glad he stuck around," said Kevin Marsteller. "Without Guyer around here, it's going to be weird."
Adds Lauren Schmittle, "he helps us so much outside of swimming. For example, for Valentine's Day, he got us all Valentines. He's sweet like that."
- Dozens of All-Americans - National winners - 22 state individual champs - 3 team titles

York Suburban's Wall of Fame is a testament to Coach Guyer's legacy.
Marsteller and Schmittle, two of Suburban's best-ever will try to add to the Trojan's impressive state titles.
Marsteller is the top seed in the boys 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly, while Schmittle is the defending champ in the girls 100 and 200 Free. They agree the pool water won't be the only thing wet the next two days.
"It's going to be emotional. I'm pretty sure me and the girls are going to be crying at the end," said Schmittle.
Marsteller said he's swimming for guy. "He's done so much for this program."
"I never took stock in counting the days," said Coach Guyer. "I enjoy what I'm doing, but I can't believe it. I think it's something like 72 hours!"
State swimmers are set to dive into action Wednesday March 11th and go through Saturday March 14th at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. Meet information can be found here
