NEW SUPERINTENDENT OF SCOTLAND SCHOOL
FOR VETERANS’ CHILDREN APPOINTED

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP — The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has appointed Ronald D. Grandel as the new superintendent of the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children in Scotland, Pa.

Grandel, who has served as the school’s assistant superintendent since 2004, is replacing Dr. Carmi Well, who left the school in August.

“We are very pleased Mr. Grandel has accepted this post. His experience as assistant superintendent at Scotland School as well as his prior military experience made him a natural fit,” said Maj. Gen. Jessica L. Wright, State Adjutant General.

Grandel, a native of Washington, Pa., has 40 years of experience in military and educational settings, as well as a bachelor’s degree in history from Washington and Jefferson College, and a master’s degree in business management from Central Michigan University.

Grandel joined the United States Army in 1966 and retired in 1987 as a major after serving in a variety of command and staff positions both oversees and in the United States. From 1987 to 2004, he was the senior Army instructor at Xavier High School in New York, N.Y.

The Scotland School for Veterans’ Children, established in 1895, is a unique, state-funded institution run by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs that offers quality residential education to the children of commonwealth veterans.

Over 280 students in grades three through 12 live on the school’s 186-acre campus in southern Franklin County, near Chambersburg. For more information visit the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ website at www.dmva.state.pa.us.
