It’s something new, students in Lancaster County are doing it, and it’s getting lots of attention!
Penn Points is Penn Manor High Schools news source, but the high school newspaper doesn’t come on paper at all! It’s entirely online, which means anyone anywhere can read what students post. It’s also an interactive site where feedback and story areas are welcome, making it one of the first of its kind in the state!
“You can be writing a story in the middle of the day and go home and finish it online at home and update it,”  said student Andrew Zell. “People can see it immediately instead of having to wait until the next day.”
Adds Penn Points advisor Susan Baldridge, “This is something way beyond what you would have in a traditional newspaper, so I think it’s really opened the doors for them.”
“If we want our colleges where we are going to see our work, then they can go on and look at it,” said student Abby Wilson.
The paper is also free, but by going high tech, do students miss out on traditional newspaper reporting?
Student staffers don’t think so. In fact, they think it’s about time!
“You can be more creative in this,” said Zell. “Also, the ability to add pictures and other media forms are so much easier. It really enhances the stories online.
Susan Baldridge also adds that it’s a stepping stone to real careers in multi-media journalism.
Penn Points has hit 10,000 visitors to date and even includes a story on News 8’s visit to the Penn Points Newsroom
