Katie Craven, a 2008 Central York grad will compete in the NCAA D2 national track and field championships in San Angelo, TX.

Katie has joined the Shippensburg University 4x400 meter relay team, which earned All-American status last year. She is also a member of the 4x100 meter relay along with Siobhan Richards, a 2005 Northeastern grad. 

The 4x100 meter relay team set a new Shippensburg school record with a time of 48.09 at the 2009 PSAC Championships.

In addition to her success in the relays, Katie also placed in the 400 meter finals at the PSAC Championships.

It was the perfect conditions for records to fall at the State track & field meet in Shippensburg, and on opening day, 3 area stars earned gold medals.

Middletown's Collin Ray claimed the AA shotput by tossing 57 ft 1 in

Bermudian's Georgia Williams took gold in the pole vault

Lancaster Catholic's Kyle Smith earned top honors in the javelin.

Lower Dauphin's Jared Bausch claimed silver in AAA discuss, and Aubree Ray took 3^rd in the AA discus.

Looking ahead into the state meet, it's really all about speed with sprinters, hurdlers, and long distance runners. There are some field events left, including Central Dauphin's Justin Shirk, the top javelin thrower in the nation.

Former Manheim Township standout Craig Miller is turning heads across the nation. The runner is currently on University of Wisconsin’s roster and ran in the US Track & Field Championships.

In the 1500 meter final, Lopez Lamong, known for carrying the American flag at the opening ceremony in the Beijing Olympics, won the race and Craig wasn’t too far behind.

He finished 6^th in the nation and is the second fastest runner among the collegiate runners in the race!

At the 2009 Black Knight Invitational, Hempfield continues to dominate with a convincing win over E-Town, Warwick, Dallastown, Garden Spot, Penn Manor, Oxford, Conestoga Valley, and Donegal.

The Knights have now won 7 consecutive Black Knight Invitational titles.

Kevin Hull of Hempfield faced E-Town's Dustin Horning in a 1600M showdown. Horning was the indoor state 4^th place finisher, but Hull claimed this race coming in the final 100 meters, finishing at 4:21.3. It was the 3^rd best 1600 run at Hempfield High School.

Central Dauphin javelin thrower Justin Shirk is this week’s Brennar Nissan Athlete of the Week.

Shirk heaved the javelin 235 ft, 3 inches at the Cedar Cliff Relays. That is the longest throw in the country by a high schooler this year, and is believed to be the third longest ever!

The Rams senior is the two-time defending state javelin champ.

The Blue Steaks girls were on fire against Warwick and it wasn't just because of the scoring weather. They won 11 of the 18 events and claimed the 97-56 victory. The Warwick boys, however, won all but 5 events and notched a 95-54 win over the Blue Streaks.

Trinity's Christian K untz is this week's Brennar Nissan Athlete of the Week! K untz swept the hurdles in AA at the Track & Field State Championships.

The Shamrocks senior claimed the 110 meter hurdles in 14.4 seconds, then cam back to win gold in the 300 meter hurdles.

The 2009 Track & Field State Championships was full of gold medal winners from the Susquehanna Valley, including the team winners.

Bishop McDevitt won class AA with a team total of 52 points. Individual achievements included:

1. Joe Beveridge: 1^st in 3200 meter, 3^rd in 1600 meter
2. Chris Houston: 1^st in 100 meter dash, 3^rd in 200 meter dash
3. Jonathon Duckett: 3^rd in discus throw
4. Quintin Walker: 1^st in high jump

Hempfield won class AAA with a team total of 38 points. Individual achievements include:

1. Kevin Hull: 3^rd in 1600 meter, 2^nd in 800 meter run
2. Kori Meshaw: 3^rd in 300 meter hurdles
3. Angela Rothmiller: 3^rd in 200 meter dash
4. Rachel Serafin: 1^st in discus throw
5. David Patzer: 1^st in pole vault

Congratulations to both Hempfield and Bishop McDevitt for placing 1^st as a team at the 2009 Track & Field State Championships!
